Powerful TCM formula improves survival in colorectal cancer patients


Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history as an effective and natural colorectal cancer treatment. A study published in the Chinese Journal of Integrative Medicine examined the effectiveness and safety of using Quxie Capsule, a medicine used in TCM, as an accompaniment for conventional treatment as a measure against metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).

  • The researchers conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 60 patients diagnosed with mCRC. These patients were divided between a control group and a treatment group. The former received conventional treatment together with a placebo, while the latter received conventional treatment paired with Quxie Capsule. The treatment lasted three months.
  • The authors took two factors as outcome measures: overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). To determine the differences between OS and PFS, subgroup analysis was conducted based on age, right- or left-sided disease, and second-line therapy.
  • The patients were followed up on every three months until the end of December 2016.
  • Those in the treatment group showed a high median OS of 24 months compared to the control group’s 14 months. Even in the subgroup, the treatment group exhibited significant survival benefits. No significant differences were noted in terms of PFS.
  • Safety analysis showed that the treatment group did not develop severe hematological toxicity or impaired function of either the liver or the kidneys.

The researchers concluded that considering the safety and effectiveness of Quxie Capsule, it may be administered to prolong the OS of patients suffering from mCRC.
